Jack’s doing a work-in-progress performance of an outdoor show in November, because he’s a bit of an idiot. If you feel like helping dig him out of this hole and being an appreciative audience member for a filmed performance that he can use to try and book gigs next year, then pull up a deckchair at Exeter Phoenix’s brand-new Secret Garden outdoor venue and you will be showered with blankets, gratitude and songs.

Here’s some words about the show:

Two towns, one rich and one poor, stand separated by a narrow strip of ocean. When the borders close and boats stop sailing, two lovers are left stranded on either side. Unphased, Leander takes to swimming across the channel to meet Hero, guided by the light of the lighthouse where she lives. But the jealous and vengeful Hephaestus, carrying an ancient grudge, plots to separate them with a flood like neither town has ever seen.

We all know how this story ends. But just maybe, this time, it will turn out different…

Hero and Leander is an outdoor gig theatre show with a six-piece band, relocating the myth from ancient Greece to the southwestern English coast. The project will fuse folk, hip-hop indie and sea shanties with cinematic orchestration and lush, epic storytelling to tell a tale of how we keep going when everything is flipping terrible.
